TUTORING

I have 21+ years working as an interventionist in the school district. My expertise is working with K-2 students in reading and writing. I provide opportunities for students to learn how to problem solve using meaning, structure, and visual cues in leveled texts. My lessons are modeled after Reading Recovery lessons and include leveled books, materials, feedback, and next steps for parents to implement with their child. I love teaching children to read and as Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW. The more that you LEARN, the more places you'll GO"!

STUDENT ASSESSMENT AND CONSULTATION

I offer student assessments to determine the strengths of your child in reading and writing. The data on letter identification, hearing sounds in words, writing vocabulary, book handling skills, reading level and strengths will be discussed with the parents. I will communicate some key areas to focus on so your child can build self-confidence and can grow as a reader and writer. This information is valuable so that parents, tutors, and teachers can teach from the child's strengths.

Assessments are about 40-45 minutes (depending on what they know) and 15-20 minutes to discuss results with the parents.
